PALERMO: Pizza in Monreale
|
|
This evening we'll go to Monreale...yes....sometimes it's nice to get out the city. We'll go to Monreale to get a pizza. Monreale is not far from Giorgio's House. Around 8 Km away but of course we'll have to take the car ... mmmm....I am the only one with the car so... 6 persons in a small Citroen!!! :o) It's not the first time...hope the police won't stop us!! ;o)
5 very nice guests will come with me to Monreale. 4 from France and 1 from Argentina
Monreale is a small village . It is on the hill and has a marvelous city view over the capital, and it is also famous for its cathedral . The cathedral of Monreale is the number 1 in the world for number of golden mosaics.
The Cathedral really worth the visit. I cannot say the same thing about the closter that for me it's too expensive. The visit of the Cathedral is free but inside it there is a small door (most of the time you can see a small table with a man in front of it). You pay 2 euros and you can go up the cathedral and enjoy a wonderful panorama of Monreale and you can also see the closter.
Outside the church you can visit the small garden of the village with its great panorama.
The village itself is not that great so you won't spend more than 2 hours there. Be aware : Bars, Icecream shops are tourists traps!!!...They are over over priced most of the time.
Next to the cathedral you can also visit a very small neighborhood called "Ciambra". Most of the tourists don't go there cause it's not in the guidebook.
It's just behind the Cathedral. The name Ciambra comes from the French word Chambres (rooms). In fact it was a dormitory neighborhood where all the people that worked to build the church used to sleep. Now it's really nice .... Visit it :o)
